Visitor Visa Help for Family, Tourism and Business Trips

A visit to see loved ones, a family occasion or an important business meeting deserves a clear application plan. The evidence needs to explain your proposed visit, how you will fund it and why you will leave afterwards.

We assist with appropriate Standard Visitor applications for family visits, tourism and permitted business activities. Other purposes, including certain short courses, academic visits and private medical treatment, have additional conditions that need checking.

Tell us what you plan to do, where you live and when you hope to travel. You do not need a complete document pack before making an enquiry.

How We Help Prepare Your Application

When you instruct us for application preparation and submission, the Knightsbridge Immigration team manages the process from initial contact to case preparation and submission.

1. Check your circumstances and proposed visit

Your adviser considers your nationality, residence, travel purpose, intended stay and immigration history. We establish whether the Visitor route fits your plans and identify any issue requiring different advice.

2. Explain the evidence you need

You receive tailored document guidance covering your visit, finances, accommodation and circumstances outside the UK. We review the documents provided and explain missing information or inconsistencies requiring attention.

3. Prepare the agreed application work

We prepare the application and organise the supporting evidence within the agreed scope. You check the application details and answer outstanding questions before approving submission.

4. Manage submission and explain the remaining steps

We manage the agreed submission process and explain the arrangements for biometrics, identity checks and documents. Your responsibilities and any additional work are covered in the terms of engagement.

For a general overview of the process, read our UK Visit Visa application guide.

What Does Visitor Visa Assistance Cost?

Our published professional fees are:

Application assistanceProfessional fee
Tourist or family visitor application£750
Business visit application£650

We confirm the work covered and the total professional fee in writing before you instruct us. Additional family applications, a different visit purpose or separately agreed work may require a different quotation.

Home Office application charges and third-party costs, such as translations or optional visa application centre services, are separate. The current Home Office fee for a standard six-month Visitor Visa is £135 per applicant.

Do You Need a Visitor Visa Before Travelling?

Not everyone needs a UK Visitor Visa. Depending on your nationality, immigration status and circumstances, you may need a visa, an electronic travel authorisation, known as an ETA, or neither.

If you need a Standard Visitor Visa, apply from outside the UK before travelling. The earliest you can normally apply is three months before your intended visit.

An ETA or visa does not create a general right to work or live in the UK. Check that your planned activities fit the Visitor rules before making travel arrangements.

What Your Visitor Visa Application Needs to Show

A genuine temporary visit: Your purpose, planned activities and length of stay should be clear. You must intend to leave at the end of the visit and must not use repeated visits to make the UK your main home.

Enough money for the trip: Explain how travel, accommodation and living costs will be covered, including any dependants travelling with you. The planned spending should make sense alongside your income, savings and existing commitments. You must be able to fund the visit without accessing public funds.

Your circumstances outside the UK: Relevant evidence may include employment, self-employment, studies, family responsibilities or other commitments. Owning property or having a particular family arrangement is not a universal requirement.

Accommodation and travel plans: Explain where you will stay and whether a host is providing accommodation or financial support. Your plans should agree with the application and supporting documents.

Accurate personal and immigration information: Your passport, previous applications and travel history should be described accurately. Earlier refusals or overstays must be disclosed where requested.

We help you identify the relevant evidence rather than treating a generic checklist as a complete assessment. Our UK visa document checklist guide explains how to organise documents around the requirements.

Visiting Family or Receiving Financial Support?

Family visits normally fall under the Standard Visitor route. An invitation letter can explain who you are visiting, your relationship, the reason for the visit and the proposed arrangements.

A relative or another eligible third party may provide accommodation or funding if the relevant conditions are met. They need to demonstrate a genuine relationship, an ability to provide the promised support and an appropriate immigration position.

Sponsorship does not remove the need to establish that you are a genuine visitor. Nor does an invitation letter guarantee approval. Read our guide to inviting friends and family to the UK.

Common Reasons for Visitor Visa Refusal

An unclear visit purpose, contradictory information, unexplained deposits or proposed spending that does not fit your circumstances can raise questions. A large bank balance alone does not answer every concern.

There is no fixed minimum bank balance that guarantees a Visitor Visa. Previous travel can be relevant, but a lack of travel history is not an automatic reason for refusal.

Your adviser reviews the evidence provided and explains issues needing attention before submission. Our guide to common UK Visit Visa refusal reasons explains the underlying requirements. The Home Office makes the decision; professional preparation cannot guarantee approval.

What Happens When You Get in Touch?

Start a Query with your nationality, country of residence, proposed visit dates and the reason for travelling. Tell us who will pay and whether you have a UK host.

Mention previous refusals, an application already submitted or any urgent date. We use this information to establish whether we can assist and explain the appropriate service, scope and fee.

If you prefer a conversation, request a call back. Detailed advice, document review and application preparation are agreed before they begin.

UK Visitor Visa Questions

How long can I stay in the UK?

Most visits are permitted for up to 6 months, subject to the permission granted. Certain medical or academic visits can qualify for longer periods under additional rules.

Can I work or study during a visit?

A Visitor Visa does not provide a general right to work. Certain business activities and specific paid engagements are permitted under defined conditions. Short courses of up to six months can also be allowed, subject to the relevant study requirements. Read our business visitor rules guide if your trip involves work-related activities.

How long does a decision usually take?

The published standard is usually three weeks after you have applied online, proved your identity and provided your documents. Additional checks can take longer. Priority services may be available for eligible applications; we cannot guarantee a decision before your travel date.

Should I book flights before applying?

Confirmed flight and hotel bookings are not normally required for a Standard Visitor Visa application. Explain your intended travel dates and accommodation plans. A visa decision is not guaranteed, so consider the cost of non-refundable bookings before making commitments. We can explain which travel information your application needs.

Can I get a longer-term Visitor Visa?

Eligible applicants can apply for visas valid for two, five or ten years. That validity does not permit continuous residence: each visit remains limited by the permission granted, normally six months.

Can I extend my visit?

If you were granted less than six months, you may be able to extend to six months in total. Staying beyond six months is limited to particular circumstances, such as qualifying medical or academic visits. Seek advice before your permission expires.

What if my Visitor Visa has already been refused?

Tell us when enquiring and provide the refusal letter when requested. Refusal analysis and advice on responding to the decision are referred to our solicitor partners. They agree the relevant work and fees with you and provide that advice under their own engagement.
